Chair – Adrian Tsui
Hello! I’m Adrian, a second year Bio NatSci and your Danby Chair for this year! Academic interests (non-exhaustive, and in no particular order): what small DNA chunks swimming in your plasma/urine can tell you about your baby/cancer/heart transplant; why eating a whole tube of vitamin C tablets is bad for you; how epidemics can be modelled with marbles (and by someone with questionable coding ability i.e. yours truly); Oh, and memes. Quote of the summer: *sniffs a piece of seafood intently* ‘smells like the decomposition of trimethylamine N-oxide’. Advice of the year: science is, and always will be, a collaborative effort. Especially IA Cells practicals… Career if I didn’t like science: professional musician
Treasurer – Marialena Iacovides
Hiya I’m Marialena, the treasurer of Danby Society this year. I’m a 2nd year Biological Natural Sciences student from Manchester. My favourite part of biology is all the “small” stuff ie all the processes that happen at a cellular level (or smaller) such as genetics and biochemistry. When I’m not studying, I spend my time playing squash, playing fives (it’s like squash but with your hands!), playing the flute, complaining about online practicals and cooking pasta for almost every meal.
Secretary – Meng Siong Chen
Hello! I’m Siong Chen, a 2nd year Natural Sciences student from Singapore! My interest in chemistry stems from the fact that it’s the central science – it’s at the intersection of physics, biology, materials science and it’s really cool how it lends itself to support so many aspects of science. It can be both mathematically rigorous like in physical chemistry or visual/intuition driven like in organic chemistry. When I’m not busy with chemistry, I enjoy reading, running and board gaming.
Internet Officer – Joel Richardson
Hiya everyone. I’m Joel, a third year Natural Scientist from Durham, specialising in Physics. As a Northerner and a student, I’m fueled almost entirely on Greggs and Tea, (with lots of Coffee on race days). I really enjoy coding aspects of the course, and always do any computational modules when the opportunity presents itself. I am shocking at practicals, (due in part to the equipment and resources provided) so I am going down a mathematical and theoretical route. I spend most of my free time at Cambridge rowing and coxing for the boat club, as I was a Lower Boats Captain last year, and currently act as their Communications Officer. I also end playing saxophone, (and a very bad job on the clarinet) in some small bands and orchestras, such as Downing Jazz Band, and my local inter-collegiate orchestra, Trumpington Street Orchestra.
